Birders and photographers are invited to join us on this 2-hour walking trip where we will explore the Pine groves of the Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve in Southern Pines, NC

We’ll be on the lookout for the most famous resident of the W.W.S.N.P., the endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker as well as various species of wood Warblers, Flycatchers, Pileated Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Northern Flickers, Downy Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Phoebes, Towhees, Summer Tanagers, Gnat Catchers, Wrens, Sparrows, Wood Thrush, Red-shouldered Hawks, and Nuthatches.

For your peace of mind and safety, social distancing will be practiced throughout the duration of this trip.

Viewing Recommendations: A zoom/telephoto lens (200 mm or more), spotting scope, or binoculars are recommended for this trip.

Physical Difficulty: easy to moderate (walking on sandy wooded paths) 1 – 2 miles possible)
