Full Moon Kayak Tour

Explore the Lowcountry waters by the light of the moon!

Description

Tidal creeks come alive with the sounds of the nocturnal animals that inhabit the salt marsh on this one of a kind kayak excursion. See Hilton Head’s natural waterways from a perspective that few get to experience – by the light of the full moon!

Outside Hilton Head’s Full Moon Kayak Paddle is a 2 hour kayak tour led by an Interpretive Naturalist guide, who is also a kayak expert. They will meet you at the start of your trip, and after getting to know the group, the fun begins! First, your guide will lead you through a brief paddling clinic to make sure everyone is on the same page as to how to hold the paddle, execute effective strokes, sit in the boat and stay safe and comfortable. Then, your guide will help you to launch into the water from our state-of-the-art kayak launch. You can choose either single or double kayaks – all of which are comfortable, safe, clean and in good working condition. Once the whole group is launched, you will head out into the Broad Creek Wildlife Area.

Duration

2 hours

As you paddle out, you will see the spectacular sunset over the water to the West as the majestic moon rises to the East. Your guide will interpret the wind and the tides, and lead you to different stops, looking for wildlife, while explaining the natural, historical and cultural significance of what you are seeing. In addition, your guide will discuss the significance of the full moon in our area, it’s effect on the tides, and the subsequent historical importance. When the sun has completely set, the strong glow of the moon will illuminate the creeks and inlets of the striking marsh, devoid of the influence of man made light. The light is so strong, you will see your own shadow on the water! At the close of your trip, your guide will help you to land and recover back at the marina. Outside Hilton Heads Full Moon Kayak Paddle is an experience not to be missed for locals and visitors alike. These popular trips fill up quickly, so please book early!
