Full Itinerary

You’ll begin your tour with a walk down Raoul Wallenberg Place SW, past the Holocaust Museum and the Bureau of Printing and Engraving. As we approach the Tidal Basin, you’ll begin to see the famed Japanese cherry trees (named Sakura in Japanese) that have made the Tidal Basin such a popular destination during the spring.

As we begin our stroll along the basin, you’ll hear interesting facts about the cherry blossom, which is considered the national flower of Japan. The arrival of the cherry blossoms was not the smoothest process, which we’ll share the story behind the process with you before taking you to the location where the very first cherry blossoms were planted.

From there, we’ll continue on to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the newest monument to join the Tidal Basin and is complemented nicely by the blooming cherry blossoms. In addition to the MLK memorial, you’ll get the opportunity to explore the Franklin Delano Roosevelt memorial and the Thomas Jefferson memorial while taking in the beauty of the basin.

Before your tour ends, you’ll participate in an age old Japanese tradition known as Hanami. Across Japan, people picnic under cherry blossom trees to enjoy the bloom and now you will be able to do the same with a little snack!

If you have any questions related to Washington DC, your tour guide is more than happy to make recommendations for the remainder of your stay in the city, whether you are in town for another day or a week.
